Dr Mindflip are looking to expand their summer touring schedule across Ireland with festival, high-profile support slots & working with like minded artists of all disciplines.
Dr. Mindflip are a masked, mysterious quintet that ooze out catchy jazz-infused jams, kooky concept albums, and the odd interactive movie (no kidding). Their theatrical live shows and chameleonic musical stylings have made them a cult favourite on the festival circuit and beyond. They’re a prolific band of misfits, and in the past two years alone have churned out a rock opera based on the worst movie ever, a videogame soundtrack, a short film score, a Gothic choose-your-own-adventure installation, and an educational game show on wheels…
The playful psychedelia of a live Dr. Mindflip show is a truly unique experience. The doctor and his masked musicians are the Lynchian lounge band of your dreams - undulating between jazzy avant-pop ditties and wild outer-space improvisations. The antics of characters such as the aristocratic Owly, the soulful saxophone-wielding Sage, and the gently unnerving Dollhead ensure that no two Dr. Mindflip gigs are the same.
Alongside a collection of EPs released on the blocSonic netlabel, an extravagant full-length debut album was funded successfully on Kickstarter - raising 315% of its target. Mastered by a Grammy award-winning engineer, Roominations: An Unofficial Parody is a trip deep into the heart of a cinematic catastrophe – a psychedelic rock opera based on the worst movie ever made - and was released on Valentine's Day 2018.
Their interactive movie The Improbable End of Owly, screened in a creepy custom-built carriage, has been full to capacity at a diverse range of festivals – Electric Picnic, Vantastival, Castlepalooza, Sunflower Fest, and the Kilkenny Fringe. A spiritual sequel, The Ultimate Learning Experience, received funding from Science Foundation Ireland and toured several schools as part of the 2018 Science Week programme. Developed in collaboration with a growing team of artists, writers, and filmmakers, both installations are a surreal blend of Dr. Mindflip’s storytelling and music.
The band are currently mixing the soundtrack to upcoming video game Dark Flame and working on new material in the studio.
Previous festival appearances include: Electric Picnic, Vantastival, Arcadian Field, Castlepalooza, Stendhal, We Bloom, Limerick Fringe, Kilkenny Arts Fringe, Clifden Arts Festival, Masters of Calm, Clifden Arts Festival, Cruthu, Rather Gather, etc.
